River & Eleven:'The trouble is, it's all back to front. My past is his future. We're travelling in opposite directions. Every time we meet, I know him more, he knows me less. I live for the days when I see him, but I know that every time I do, he'll be one step further away. And the day is coming when I'll look into that man's eyes, my Doctor, and he won't have the faintest idea who I am. And I think it's going to kill me.'

Time can be rewritten.
Not once you’ve read it. Once we know it’s coming, it’s written in stone.
Listen, it’s lovely talking to you but I really got to get on. I’m a caretaker now. Look, I got a brush!
Psi got his memories back. Sabre got her gene suppressant. But what was the Doctor’s reward? It was the Doctor who was the Architect, not some all-powerful being who could magically grant everyone’s wish at the end of the mission. He couldn’t grant his own wish just as a reward for doing a seemingly impossible task - he does that everyday anyway. That doesn’t mean he didn’t get anything out of it.
When he saw what was in that vault and what the entire mission had been about from the start, it struck a chord with him. A lonely monster, the last of his kind, stuck doing things it regrets because the one it loved had been taken from him. This is why the Doctor agreed to take on the mission, not because of Madame Karabraxos’ regret. The Doctor may be unable to save his own wife but he couldn’t just stand by and not save the seemingly doomed couple. The Doctor and River may not get their happily ever after, but the Teller and his now will and that was reward enough.
